Hello my name is Joel. I've always been athletic. I was given the gift from the All Mighty to be coordinated mentally and physically. I am also very competitive with myself and others. I am an achiever--I find myself never settling. I am always looking to achieve or accomplish my goals and challenges. I gravitate towards sports that require little team effort. I want to compete with myself and beat my opponent.
In my early youth I attempted to play baseball. I enjoyed the sport a lot. It requires strength and mental focus. However, I wasn't satisfied with the sport. It never gave me the drive to win and win more. My dad had introduced me to surfing early-on in my life but it wasn't until I was about 12 years old that I really started to enjoy it. When I was around 14-15 I started to be more competitive and around 17-18 years old it was everything to me. I pushed myself harder and harder to be the best and achieve greatness.
Recently, I have focused all of my energy into rowing. This is the first time I've ever really competed with a team-mate. I am training with my rowing partner for the doubles masters in spring of this year. We train 3-4 times a week. We spend a lot of time perfecting technique, watching our split averages and building each other up mentally. We are both competitive in nature and we are both driven to achieve.
I follow the WSL (world surf league) and anything that has to do with rowing. I especially love watching all of the olympic rowing events. USA has a killer women's 8 rowing crew. I've been to a couple of baseball games while I lived in LA. I also had a friend who had season tickets to the Lakers. Her and I went to many games together. I don't follow a lot of sports but I know I'm about to spend more time watching and staying on top of current sport events.
As a blogger, I will be reading multiple articles related to sports communications and there will also be a text book. I will also spend time keeping up with current sports events/news. All of this will hopefully facilitate weekly blogs that I will write. Most of the content will have to do with my position on specific topics. Some of what is expected: Sports communication theory, Commodification, Parent-athlete communication, Crisis communication, Fantasy sports and Gaming, and more.
I hope you enjoy these next four months as much as I will!!
